Preparing LEET
The Joint Lateral Entry Examination (JLEE) is a state-level engineering entrance examination conducted by the Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) for diploma holders seeking direct admission into the third semester (second year) of B.Tech programs in engineering colleges across Assam. It serves as the primary pathway for diploma students who wish to upgrade their qualifications and obtain a bachelor's degree in engineering without repeating the first year of study. JLEE is highly popular among diploma graduates from polytechnic institutions because it allows them to complete a B.Tech degree in only three additional years. Through JLEE, candidates can secure admission into government engineering colleges, university departments, and private engineering institutions participating in the centralized admission process conducted in Assam. The examination evaluates candidates on engineering fundamentals, mathematics, analytical ability, technical concepts, and branch-specific knowledge acquired during diploma studies. The syllabus is primarily based on diploma-level engineering subjects and is designed to assess whether candidates are academically prepared for direct entry into the second year of engineering education. Popular branches available through JLEE admissions include Computer Science Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and other emerging technology disciplines. Students admitted through JLEE benefit from reduced academic duration, lower educational costs, access to engineering placements, eligibility for higher studies such as M.Tech and MBA programs, and opportunities to appear for examinations such as GATE, PSU recruitment, and government engineering services. The admission process typically involves online application, entrance examination, result declaration, merit list publication, counseling, seat allotment, document verification, and final admission reporting. Engineering institutions participating in the process include Assam Engineering College, Jorhat Engineering College, Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology, and other approved engineering colleges in the state.
Candidates should possess a Diploma in Engineering and Technology from a recognized institution approved by AICTE or the State Council for Technical Education. The diploma must generally be in a discipline relevant to the engineering branch for which admission is sought. Candidates must satisfy the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by ASTU and the Government of Assam. Eligible diploma holders can apply for direct admission into the third semester of B.Tech programs through the JLEE admission process.
